Ursula’s passion for art started back in high school in NYC, the first time she set foot in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This experience shaped and formed her creative spirit throughout her life. She even minored in art history in college while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing. After 18 wonderful years as a critical care nurse in prestigious hospitals, Ursula left her nursing career to raise and care for her first child.
A couple of years later, Ursula decided to pursue her passion for floral artistry by enrolling in an accredited certificate program at a local community college in Maryland. She completed her certificate weeks before the birth of her second child in the summer of 2018. Art is the common thread which holds fleursDC together. Ursula loves to visit art museums in her free time to share with her children and husband her passion for art. Her floral designs reflect her deep love of art & respect for the principles & elements of design. Ursula’s design style is avant-garde yet sophisticated. Inspired by art, music, fashion and of course flowers! Color is her floral design super power. She loves to explore color through their hues, values, shades, tints and tones and combinations in order to provide that wow factor for her clients.
Ursula earned her EMC (European Master Certification) in October 2021 in Belgium learning from the world renowned European designer Tomas de Bruyne. She was inducted into AIFD in July 2023 in Chicago, USA. Ursula presented on the main stage at the AIFD Symposium in 2022.
Ursula is blessed to count among her teachers Gregor Lersch (recognized as “the Maestro”-the father of modern floristry), Hitomi Gilliam AIFD, Frédéric Dupré (MOF), Christin Geall, Shawn Michael Foley AIFD PFCI.
